Along all the Leadership Principles (LPs) from Amazon, one the most memorable phrase for me was: [Our Tenets] (unless you know better ones)
This phrase empowered every Amazonian to continuously challenge the status quo, ask questions and suggest improvement. Any and all Leadership Principles can be questioned, reasoned and better understood. New ones can be suggested and old ones can be combined or deprecated.
This highlighted an important fact: company cultures evolve and morph. As they should. A successful organization should bring in diversity of ideas and avoid group-think. New comers will not understand the meaning of existing cultural norms or may not agree with them. However, old timers may feel challenged.
That is why it is important to encourage the practice of suggesting new ideas. Discuss them, celebrate them and if it makes sense, adopt them.
