How to reset Windows 2008 Domain Administrator Account Password
on Monday June 30th, 2008 at 5:27 PM CST under Howto

As a student of computer security, I can't emphasize enough about physical security. This little exercise would allow you to gain domain administrative access if you have no physical security.

This tutorial would show you how to reset domain administrator's password if you have lost or forgotten it. Microsoft allows you to create a floppy for password reseting, but who remembers to make a floppy! That too in 2008 - a floppy! So far, I haven't come across anything similar to this on the Internet. All my google searches return password reseting techniques for Windows 2003 and before.

This simple tutorial will show you how to reset Windows 2008 Domain administrator's password. You will need a linux rescue CD, e.g. PLD Linux to perform this exercise. Click on the image below to play the tutorial.

Listening Habits
on Friday April 18th, 2008 at 4:25 PM CST under Ideas

So I have decided to write scripts to display my iTunes listening habits on this website. I wrote a script last year [sample], that would take the last 50 songs and put it on my web-server, but I lost that script, and I will have to write everything all over. I improved it to display the album art extracted from the itunes xml files. I am thinking about adding some of these features:

  • Display songs with artist, album and album art info.
  • Have a simple jscript to display the current song playing. If no song is being played, then it should display the appropriate msg.
  • Try to show the next song, if the playlist is not in random mode
  • Be able to update the page, no matter where I play the song on my notebook

A few applications are available to do this, but they are not very customizable or configurable according to my needs. And it would be a good exercise and review of xml and xslt programming. Ideas are welcome

Perl, SNMP, OIDs and bleh!
on Thursday April 17th, 2008 at 12:16 AM CST under Linux

I have been working with Zack on automation of network pod assignment and management. Since, I just started recently, I have been trying to understand the whole project and deliverables. The whole thing is crazy and different but cool and challenging.

I have been so far helping Zack with some scripting, although he is mostly ahead of me (call it my n00bness, but hey, remember I am still new ;o)). I was able to manage an APC switched rack PDU, through SNMP. The hardest part was finding the right APC OIDs, because APC has done the worst job in documenting it.

Anyways, it is all fun and games. I was going to work on it tonight, but Zack beat me to it again, although I am happy that it is working atleast.

More details to follow, depending on my mood.

I am also thinking about making a separate section for programming and code snipplets but I should sleep right now. It is late!

Things to do
on Monday April 14th, 2008 at 6:24 PM CST under Ideas
Right now the blog page is very basic, but I will soon be adding the following features:
  • Display last 10 blog entries only
  • Display blog entries under categories, such as personal, unix/linux, voip, security, ideas, and how-tos
  • Make the website a little bit faster.

I will soon be adding more details on my projects page.
Enjoy your stay!

AhmedSiddiqui.net is completed!
on Monday March 31st, 2008 at 6:58 PM CST under Personal
Eventually I decided to get my own domain, not surprisingly AhmedSiddiqui.net. I decided to built, design, and code everything from scratch myself. Most of the site is coded in plain HTML, some PHP, some MySQL, and some javascript.

Please let me know if things are broken, behave unexpectedly or are exploitable.

I hope you will enjoy your stay and I would appreciate all the feedback.
